Speak Out Against the Canadian Seal Slaughter
Year after year, people who care about animals have urged the Canadian government to end the annual seal slaughter. In Canada, it is legal to slaughter seal pups when they are approximately 12 days old—before many of them have eaten solid food or learned how to swim. These baby seals cannot protect themselves and have no way to escape. In 2008, more than 205,000 seals were killed during the annual slaughter.
You and Your Class Can Help Save Baby Seals!
You and your class can speak up for seals by writing letters to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper asking him to help bring an immediate end to the seal slaughter.
If you work with younger students, print out our "Club Soda, Not Seals" picture for them to color. Once you have collected all your students' letters and artwork, please mail them to us at the following address so that we can send them all out at once:
