Marley Before
Marley After
With winter setting in, countless chained "backyard" dogs will soon be struggling to survive long days and nights outside in the freezing cold. Some die from exposure because of lack of basic shelter, but most somehow pull through, suffering miserably from the cold and damp winter conditions.
These dogs live lonely lives at the end of a chain and desperately need shelter to stay warm and dry. With your help, TeachKind can support PETA's efforts to build and deliver hundreds of sturdy, warm doghouses filled with straw to these lonely dogs whose guardians won't relinquish them to caring people or let them inside.
Your Students Can Help Cold, Lonely Backyard Dogs
TeachKind is launching an exciting fundraiser for schools—Change for Chained Dogs—to help raise money for dog houses for these dogs. The fundraiser offers schools the opportunity to help alleviate the suffering of outdoor dogs who spend their lonely lives trapped at the end of a chain, with no real shelter from freezing temperatures, snow, sleet, and other weather extremes.
How Does Change for Chained Dogs Work?
Sign up to participate in Change for Chained Dogs below and you'll receive everything that you need! Our pack comes complete with an introduction letter, stickers, leaflets, and a sign to print out and tape to collection cans. Children are naturally fond of animals, and by encouraging them to help raise money for dogs in need, educators can empower students to make a difference for others. Students will not only learn about the need for community service but also the importance of taking care of companion animals.
Once you receive our materials, promote the event by letting students and their families know about the fundraiser. Put collection cans in your main office, classrooms, and the school's lobby. To make the fundraiser more fun, schools can even create a competition between grade levels to see which one can raise the most change for dogs! The winning grade could receive a popcorn party or other reward. If it isn't possible for the entire school to get involved, educators can hold a Change for Chained Dogs fundraiser with students in their classrooms. Every little bit counts for these lonely dogs who wait at the end of a chain as life passes them by.
