May is National Egg Month,
so we created a program to help your students understand where the
eggs in the grocery store come from. TeachKind will provide educators
with a free video component for each lesson.
The program for elementary students is based around the captivating
“Let’s
Ask the Animals” video, which is available free from TeachKind.
Students will learn about the numerous traits that chickens, sheep,
cows, and pigs share with us. The lesson includes two reproducible
activity sheets that
can be printed from this site—one teaches chicken-related vocabulary
and the other, which is a coloring sheet,
allows students to color pictures of beautifully drawn chickens and
turkeys. Students will also learn about modern egg farming.
The lesson for older students (grades six and up) centers around the
egg farm investigations video,
which includes documentaries on the modern egg industry. This video
can also be obtained from TeachKind at no cost. The lesson teaches
students about the real egg producers—hens—and
the manner in which they are raised to produce eggs.
