What Can TeachKind Do For You?
Donations, Events, and Teaching Resources
Free Books
We provide empathy-enhancing reading resources, from class sets of nonfiction texts to titles for book vending machines and curated bundles for entire districts.
We love supporting schools and teachers by donating books tailored to their specific grade levels. For instance, we collaborated with the Yakima School District in Washington to provide free children’s books that focus on lessons in empathy for all their elementary schools, and the district’s response has been wonderfully positive.
Exciting news! Our first non-fiction children’s book, Unlocking the Animal World: Incredible Facts and How Kids Can Be Superheroes for Animals by PETA President Ingrid Newkirk, is available now. Perfect for students in grades 4-6, teachers can request a class set via email.
Whether you’re enhancing your classroom library or searching for a children’s book on a specific topic, our specially curated selection of compassionate books is here to support you. Discover a wide variety of must-read titles that inspire kindness and foster empathy among students.
Free Food
From cooking classes to school events, we provide vegan food for students and teachers.
Have something to celebrate? We’d love to partner with you to provide free vegan food that introduces your students to tasty options that are kind to animals, the planet, and our health. Imagine delicious pizza topped with vegan cheese, sweet dairy-free ice cream, and more. From plant-based eggs for a series of cooking classes at a middle school in Oregon to vegan ice cream for a Pennsylvania elementary school’s ice cream social, we’ve provided animal-free options for educators across the country. We’re excited to support your school community too! Send us an email to learn more.

Free Assemblies with Robotic Animals
Animatronic animals, Ellie the Elephant and Carly the Cow, travel with their own TeachKind tour teams across the U.S., visiting elementary students and teaching them about empathy for all.
Ellie the Elephant and Carly the Cow, TeachKind’s animatronic animal educators, tour the country on a mission to inspire, educate, and bring their important message of kindness for all to thousands of elementary students each year. Participating students receive free coloring sheets, stickers, and more.
Teachers and staff are given free resources, including our Share the World program kit, pre-visit and post-visit activities such as create-your-own Ellie and Carly hats, and related Kahoots! A visit from Ellie includes free “I’m a Kind Kid” pencils, and a visit from Carly includes free vegan ice cream sandwiches.
“Empathy and compassion are both concepts that are emphasized and taught here at Tom Williams ES, but it can be difficult for students to really understand what those things mean. Ellie the Elephant was able to help with that understanding. It wasn’t just another lesson—it was an experience. … TeachKind’s impact has been immeasurable, and the presence of Ellie was a pivotal moment in the students’ emotional and social growth.”
– Tom Williams Elementary School
If you’re an educator or school administrator interested in bringing Ellie the Elephant or Carly the Cow to your students—let us know! E-mail us at [email protected] with your name, title, city, state, and school name and we’ll work with you to try to fit you into our tour schedule!

Free ‘Meet the Author’ Events
We host ‘Meet the Author’ events for upper elementary school students in the NYC area. We provide free books, lessons, food, and a Q&A session with Stewart Mitchell, author of Liberation Summer.
With books for students, accompanying lessons for teachers, and delicious vegan chicken sandwiches for everyone, we host “Liberation Summer” events for middle schools in the NYC area. Designed for fifth-grade classes, TeachKind provides:
- Free Books: Every fifth-grade teacher and student will receive a copy of Liberation Summer, by Brooklyn native Stewart Mitchell, along with a signed copy for the school library.
- Free Lessons: Teachers receive a complimentary literary theme lesson to accompany the book.
- Free Event: We coordinate an in-person event where author Stewart Mitchell shares his inspiring story, offers writing tips, answers students’ questions, and motivates them to keep reading, writing, and dreaming big!
- Free Food: After the Q&A, we provide free vegan chicken sandwiches for all participating students and staff. Teachers and students routinely express how surprisingly delicious they are.
Free Q&A with a Scientist
We coordinate virtual presentations and interviews for students interested in animal experimentation with Dr. Katherine Roe, a neuroscientist and the chief of PETA’s Science Advancement & Outreach division.
Dr. Katherine Roe, neuroscientist and the chief of the Science Advancement & Outreach division at PETA, provides presentations for students of all ages. With extensive expertise in the realm of animal experimentation, Dr. Roe can share information about the scientific efficacy of animal testing, 21st-century research methods such as organs-on-a-chip, and more. With bachelor’s degrees in biology and psychology, a Ph.D. in experimental psychology and cognitive science, and decades of professional experience specializing in brain and neuroimaging research with humans, she brings a wealth of academic knowledge to her role and can serve as a key resource.
She’s able to answer students’ pressing questions, such as “What is life really like for an animal in a laboratory?” or “How do experiments on animals impact the environment and animal populations?” with age-appropriate and accurate information. Contact us to learn more.

Free Virtual Presentations
We offer virtual interviews and presentations with experts in their fields to support students working on Passion Projects, IB Exhibitions, and other research involving animals.
We know students are interested in issues involving animals and want to learn more about humans’ impact on other species and the planet we share. Since many student-led research projects involve interviewing experts or gathering information from various perspectives, we coordinate virtual presentations to support their work. Our experts offer online presentations on a wide range of topics that easily support persuasive writing or research lessons and can help start discussions about ethics, animal care, and related subjects.
Whether students are interested in vegan living, the impact of animal agriculture on the climate crisis, or the effectiveness of animal testing, we’ll work with you to ensure our presentation aligns with your curriculum and meets your class’s needs. Send us an email to get started.

Free Worksheets and Activities
We provide worksheets, activities, and printables for K-12 students that help foster kindness, empathy, and compassion while meeting curricular goals.
Bring empathy to your lessons with free, no-prep activities! TeachKind offers free printable resources to help students learn kindness and compassion for animals and each other. Access a variety of standards-based printables and engaging lesson ideas through our website and TPT.

You can apply to take part in TeachKind’s free science program to receive humane dissection resources like the Kind Frog™, digital dissection software, virtual reality tools, and anatomical models.
Field Trips, Fundraisers, and Alternatives to ‘Class Pets’
With tips to ensure that school activities, projects, and events are always animal-friendly, we provide guides that make it easy to foster empathy and compassion and eliminate guesswork when practicing kindness.
School is a great place for young people to learn to show compassion for animals and each other—and you have the power to encourage them! Our guide to kind field trips and fundraisers is full of ideas to help you do that, and we’ve created a guide to introducing a class plant instead of a “class pet”—because humans are the only animals who belong in the classroom.

We offer guidance on starting and running an animal protection club, including at the elementary level, to promote humane education and student engagement.
Helping to facilitate an animal rights, rescue, or protection club is a fun and easy way for you and students to make a difference for animals. We offer a guide to get your club up and running and can help coordinate special events and learning opportunities for participants. Take a peek at a few fun ideas to explore!

Kind Teacher Community Building
We build kind communities by connecting like-minded teachers, strengthening relationships, and encouraging empathy in classrooms around the world.
Imagine finding out that there was a teacher nearby who was working just as hard as you to foster empathy for animals in their students. TeachKind frequently connects with educators across the country who are looking for support in teaching kindness and cultivating compassion for animals in their classrooms. We help connect like-minded educators who teach the same subject or grade or work within the same school district. This unique opportunity allows teachers to unite forces, collaborate, and help make amazing things happen!

At TeachKind, we know that today’s educators face countless complex expectations. That’s why we’re here to support you every step of the way. Together, we can work toward creating a kinder world for everyone.
